Complex tenses

 
The word forms of the complex tenses – the analytical word forms – do not consist of a single word, but of a combination of an auxiliary verb and a main verb.

The auxiliaries haben or sein are used to form:

Perfect
Past perfect      

The choice of the auxiliary depends on the main verb. Whether a verb takes haben or sein is stated for each verb individually in the dictionary. See also Perfect with haben or with sein.

The auxiliary werden is used to form:

Future I
Future II             

The tenses of the

Passive            

are also complex tenses.
