Full verbs

A full verb is a verb that has the ability to function alone as predicate of a sentence:

Ich esse einen Apfel.
Der Großvater
schenkte den Kindern ein Bonbon.
Er
reist nach Rom.
Es
regnet.

Unlike full verbs, auxiliary verbs and modal verbs can function as predicate only together with the past participle or an infinitive of a full verb.
